Le Lion-d'Angers/FRA (fn-press). Great success for the German horse breeding at the World Championships of young eventing horses in Le Lion-d'Angers in France. The Oldenburg mare Lagona, presented by Anna Lena Schaaf, secured the gold medal in the six-year-old class. The new World Champion in the seven-year-old age group is the Holstein mare Cute Girl, ridden by the Australian Kevin McNab. In this age group there was also silver for the seven-year-old Trakehner stallion Outback, ridden by the British rider Laura Collett.

It was a start-to-finish victory for U21 team and European Vice Champion Anna Lena Schaaf (Hünxe) and her Oldenburg show jumper Lagona. With only 25.8 minus points, the German pair took the lead in the dressage and did not add any further penalty points to this result, neither in the cross-country nor in the jumping. Last year Schaaf and Lagona, a daughter of Lavagon (MV: Cartani) bred by Theodor Sporkmann from Bottrop, already won the final qualification at the Bundeschampionats, and this year they were successful at two-star level in both Jardy and Langenhagen.

As the second best German pair, Olympic Champion Julia Krajewski (Warendorf) finished the WEG in fifth place with the six-year-old ChinTonic (by Contendro I - Heraldik xx). Still fourth after the dressage, the Hanoverian, a full brother of the Olympic horse fischerChipmunk FRH bred by Wolfgang Lutz from Langwedel, conceded a drop in the course and finished the WEG with 31.9 minus points. With her second horse, the Zangersheide gelding Great Twist d'Ive Z, the Olympic champion still finished the competition in 14th place after a somewhat unfortunate dressage.

Silver and bronze in the six-year-old class went to the Selle Francais gelding Fibonacci des Lessac HDC, presented by the Frenchman Nicolas Touzaint (26.8 minus points), and the Irish-bred stallion Bonmahon Chelsea, ridden by the Italian Giuliano Albo Rachele (31.7 minus points).

Seven-year-olds: Double success for German horse breeders As with the six-year-olds, the new World Champion of the seven-year-old event horses also prevailed in a start-to-finish victory. Without any faults in cross-country and show jumping, the gray mare by Coventry - Clearway, a former Holstein auction horse, and her Australian rider Kevin McNab finished the test with only 26.9 minus points. Cute Girl is bred by Hobe Magens from Ottenbüttel.

The British team Olympic champion Laura Collett also finished with a white vest with the Trakehner stallion Outback. Her overall result: 27.2 minus points and thus silver ahead of her compatriot Selina Milnes and her Irish gelding Cooley Snapchat (28.3 minus points). Outback, a son of the thoroughbred Duke of Hearts and a dam by Sixtus, is also a former auction foal and comes from the breeding of the Trakehner stud in Grimma.

As the best German pair, Josephine Schnaufer-Völkel from Neitersen and the Westphalian gelding Cinnamon Red by Cascadello I - Cordino placed eighth. To the dressage result of 28.5 minus points, four penalty points were added at the end for a drop in the course. Cinnamon Red is bred by Helmut Bergendahl from Hamminkeln.
