Maarslet/DEN (fn-press). Not one but two German stallion personalities top the world rankings compiled by the World Horse Breeding Federation (WBFSH). As number one in dressage, the Oldenburg Sandro Hit ranks ahead of the two KWPN stallions Johnson and Jazz. In show jumping, the Mecklenburg Chacco-Blue leads ahead of Diamant de Semilly (Selle Francais) and the Holstein Casall. In eventing, the Holstein Diarado takes second place behind Jaguar Mail (SF). Third in this discipline is the Trakehner stallion Grafenstolz.

The name Sandro Hit has appeared in the top ten of the WBFSH Sire Rankings since 2012, was second in 2017 and 2018, and third a year later. This year, the Oldenburg black stallion, who died in August, leads the field and is also represented at the top of the world rankings with his son Sir Donnerhall I (Sandro Hit - Donnerhall) in fourth place and his grandson Spielberg (by Sunny Boy - Rosier) in eighth place. Sandro Hit by Sandro was bred by Reinhold Harder out of Loretta by Ramino, and already came to the Schockemöhle stable as a foal in 1993. In 1999, with Dr. Ulf Möller in the saddle, Sandro Hit became both World Champion of Young Dressage Horses and Bundeschampion, and in the following years left a visible mark on German dressage horse breeding. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Sandro Hit was the stallion with the most offspring in dressage, including Dorothee Schneider's Hanoverian Showtime FRH. Incidentally, his team gold also contributed to the Hanoverian Verband's second place in the WBFSH's breeding association ranking.

Other stallions from German breeding in the top ten of the world's best dressage horse sires are the Brandenburg-bred Quaterback (by Quaterman - Brandenburger) in fifth place, sire of Isabell Werth DSP Quantaz among others, and the Rhinelander Fidertanz (by Fidermark - Ravallo), just named Hanoverian Stallion of the Year, in sixth place, whose offspring can be found in both dressage and eventing. Last but not least, the Hanoverian Desperados (by De Niro - Wolkenstein II), himself team Olympic champion in 2016 with Kristina Sprehe, ranks tenth.

Spring Stallion Ranking
. Like Sandro Hit, the Mecklenburg jumping stallion Chacco-Blue has an impact on German horse breeding far beyond his death. Since 2017, the son of the Holsteiner Chambertin, bred by Karl-Heinz Köpp from Groß Stieten out of a Contender - Godavari xx dam, has topped the world rankings. Even highly successful in international sport - among others third in the Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen - Chacco-Blue has 1,393 successful offspring according to FN-success data, which together have achieved a lifetime earnings of about 6.5 million Euros, as well as 47 licensed and approved sons. No fewer than five offspring also scored for him at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, including Olympic champion Explosion W, ridden by the British rider Ben Maher.

Casall (by Caretino - Lavall I), who placed third this year, was fifth last year. The Holsteiner bred by Wilfried Thomann was licensed in 2001, but made a name for himself primarily in sport at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the 2013 European Championships in Herning and the 2014 World Championships. In 2017, his Swedish rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson bid him farewell to the sport with a final victory in Hamburg. 88 licensed and approved sons and currently 1,188 registered show horses carry on his name. Another German-bred jumper stallion in the top ten is the Holsteiner Cardento (by Capitol I), the sire of David Will's European Championship horse C-Four.

Eventing stallion ranking
. Even though the eventing stallion ranking is led by the Selle Francai stallion Jaguar Mail, who shined in Tokyo with two offspring (Vassily de Lassos/rider: Andrew Hoy/Australia and Colorado Blue/Austin o'Connor/Ireland), four German sires stand out in the top ten. Second place was taken by the Holstein stallion Diarado, born in 2005, a son of Diamant du Semilly and a dam by Corrado I. He was bred by Klaus Thingholm Kristensen from Ulstrup. Among his most successful offspring in the "bush" are the Holsteiner Diachello, Olympic horse of Jesse Campbell/New Zealand, and the Hanoverian Ducati d'Arville, successful horse of the Belgian Lara de Liederkerke-Meier.

Third place went to last year's first-place finisher, the Trakehner Grafenstolz (by Polarion - Camelot), who made history at a young age when, with Michael Jung in the saddle, he qualified for the Bundeschampionat in three disciplines at the same time in 2004 and became the Bundeschampion for cross-country horses in Warendorf and World Champion for young eventing horses in the same year. In 2006 he was named Horse of the Year by the Trakehner Veraband and ten years later he was named Trakehner Stallion of the Year. Grafenstolz also passes on his versatility to his offspring, according to FN success data14 of them have dressage successes up to advanced (S) level, six in show jumping and eight in eventing, among them for example Monsieur Schnabel (rider: Malin Hansen-Hotopp), Guccimo R OLD (Jerôme Robiné) and Granulin (Jan Matthias).

Also listed in the top ten eventing sires is the Holstein stallion Contendro I (by Contender - Reichsgraf), best known in Germany for the Hanoverian European team champion and Olympic participant fischerChipmunk (Michael Jung). He takes fifth place. In seventh place is another Holsteiner, Landos (by Lord - Calypso I), sire of the team Olympic champion London (Laura Collet/Great Britain). It is not least thanks to London's successes that the Holstein Breeders' Association ranks him second behind France (Selle Francais) in the WBFSH studbook ranking.
