Unbeatable: Julien Epaillard also wins the World Cup stage in Lyon

He was simply in a class of his own this weekend: Julien Epaillard won everything there is to win at the World Cup leg in Lyon. The Frenchman won all three main jumping competitions including the Grand Prix in front of his home crowd. The number three in the world ranking list did not give the competition the slightest chance and in the end also secured victory after a jump-off (34.88 seconds) in the World Cup stage in Lyon in the saddle of Caracole de la Roque (by Zandor Z).
Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and his VDL Edgar (by Arezzo VDL) came closest to this best time of Epaillard with 35.61 seconds. Zanotelli's wife, Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli, had recently won the World Cup leg in Helsinki. So the World Cup points stay in the family this time.

Jur Vrieling and his Holstein grey Long John Silver (by Lasino) took third place.
The best German riders in France were Marcel Marschall and his nine-year-old Holsteiner Coolio (by Casalito), who had only one down.
There were no World Cup points on Sunday for Jana Wargers and her successful partner Limbridge (by Limbus), who had placed second in the main show jumping competition on Friday. Two faults prevented them from making it into the jump-off this time.
The Rolex Grand Prix winners from Aachen 2021 and Calgary this year, Daniel Deusser and his Killer Queen VDM (by Eldorado vd Zeshoek), also had a difficult Sunday. After a coordination problem on the way to a steep jump, there was another drop in the course. In the end, ten penalties including two time faults were recorded.
Victoria Gulliksen is currently leading the World Cup after three legs, ahead of Bryan Balsiger and Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli. Gerriet Nieberg is in fifth place, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann is currently in eighth place.
