Yesterday morning, 09 April 2021, Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of England, announced the death of her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"It is with profound sadness that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," Buckingham Palace said. According to the statement, the 99-year-old died "peacefully at Windsor Castle."
The state of health of the Queen's husband had already been very frail in recent weeks. From the public the duke already withdrew almost 3 years ago, at the ripe old age of 96.

You are surely wondering now why the team of EQUILEC is spreading this news? Prince Philip was not only the Queen's consort, but also the longest President of the FEI to date.
The Duke of Edinburgh shaped the shape of equestrian sport like no other.
From 1964 to 1986, he was president of the Fédération Équestre Internationale, the governing body of international equestrian sport.
Under his leadership, the basic plans for the World Equestrian Games, held in Stockholm in 1990, were created.

But the duke was not all praise when it came to equestrian sports.
For the first time, he came under criticism in his own country. Prince Philip was instrumental in transforming equestrian sport from amateur to professional and professional. As a result, many of the riders could not participate in the Olympics as amateurs. Of course, many horsemen and women were very angry about this.
For the second time, he came under criticism after he did not name the former president of the FN, Dieter Graf Landsberg Velen as his successor after his term of office, but his daughter Princess Anne.

Nevertheless, Price Philip was a unique personality and will remain unforgotten!
