On the occasion of the 51st Holstein licensing and elite auction in Neumünster, a coveted award was presented, and this year Ocke Riewerts from Alkersum on the island of Föhr was delighted to receive it: he was honored as Holstein Breeder of the Year with the Landgraf I statue.

This honor was bestowed upon him not least because of the successes of a very special horse that was born in his stable on the North Sea island of Föhr and is now promoting the Holstein horse all over the world with his sporting successes: this is London by Landos-Quinar, who secured eventing team gold for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year with Laura Collett. "I will forever be grateful to London for this incredible memory of the Olympics," the rider said. "I wish I could relive every single moment over and over again." And London's 61-year-old breeder will also never forget the victory in Tokyo: "I was bursting with pride," admitted the likeable North Frisian. Born in 2009, London was sold as a foal, first raised as a stallion prospect in Schleswig-Holstein, then broken in and shown at competitions, where Peter Thomsen discovered him. Since 2016, London has been in the stable of Laura Collett from Great Britain, who has successfully represented her country at various European Championships. With her, the representative of the 3200 line collected numerous victories and placings in international eventing: in 2019 and 2020 alone, he finished as the winner of the four-star events in Boekelo (NED), Chatsworth (GBR) and Little Downham (GBR) and the five-star competition in Pau, France.

Holsteins are family tradition.
The attachment to the Holsteiner horse is a family affair for the Föhr-based breeder: his parents already had a small Holsteiner breed, and they also maintained the 3200 strain. After Ocke Riewerts' father died, his Holsteiner horses moved to his wife Marle's parental farm, which the couple farmed as a hobby from then on; Riewerts' main job is in the civil service. His sons Johannes and Julus help on the farm and are interested in the parental breeding, in which three mares are used. London's dam Vernante was a very special horse for Ocke Riewerts: his first homebred state premium mare, for which he chose the stallion Landos. "I was a fan of Landos, who was stationed on Föhr and at that time was still covering in natural jumping. He had the right attitude for the sport and was an ideal match for my blooded mares." Always following London's career, he created a profile on a social network specifically for this purpose and thus came into contact with the British Laura Collett, who was very happy about London's breeder's interest and was able to report many successes. The bay's recent top placings not only ensured that the Holsteiner Verband is listed second in the WBFSH Eventing Rankings as the second best breeding association in 2021. London also collected so many points that Ocke Riewerts leads the WBFSH breeder ranking of eventing horses worldwide. A fantastic success for the Föhrer, who has been a member of the Holsteiner Verband since 1992. Reasons enough to honor Ocke Riewerts as Holsteiner Breeder of the Year 2021 with the Landgraf I statue. "This only happens once in a lifetime," is his modest comment. And, "Without the help of my wife, this would never have been possible."

Three Silver Badges of Honor.
Jens Hauschildt, Wulf Hinrich Hamann and Francesca Pollara were awarded the Silver Badge of Honor of the Holsteiner Verband. Hauschildt and Hamann received the award for their many years of work in the Holsteiner Verband's licensing commission. Hauschildt was a member of the commission from 2005 until the beginning of 2021 and most recently held its chair. Hamann contributed his great sporting and breeding expertise for four years. Francesca Pollara from Italy has been working in recent years with, among others, the reigning European Champion JL Dublin by. Diarado-Canto (Volker Götsche-Götze, Groß Buchwald) and the World Champion of seven-year-old event horses, Cute Girl by Coventry-Clearway (Hobe Magens, Ottenbüttel), she has been highly successful in placing Holstein horses that she discovered at auctions of the Holsteiner Verband with top international riders and has had a significant influence on their sporting careers.

Successful worldwide with Holstein horses.
With Olympic champions, world champions and no less than several European champions, the Association of Breeders of the Holstein Horse celebrated numerous successes this year on behalf of its members. Breeders, riders and owners of Holstein horses were honored for their achievements at the Olympic Games, junior as well as senior European Championships in jumping, eventing and dressage as well as at the U25 Jumping Cup and received high-quality honorary prizes. In addition, the finalists of this year's Bundeschampionate in Warendorf - breeders, riders and owners of the placed horses - were honored in the Holstenhallen.
