Le-Lion d'Angers: Lagona OLD is World Champion again

With another gold medal in Le-Lion d'Angers, the Oldenburg mare Lagona OLD confirmed her potential for eventing. After her victory at the World Championships for six-year-old eventing horses last year, the Lavagon daughter and her rider Anna Lena Schaaf (Hünxe/Warendorf) were now also unbeatable in the seven-year-old class.
Just like last year, Anna Lena Schaaf (Hünxe) and Lagona OLD, an Oldenburg show jumper, managed a start-finish victory. With only 18.6 minus points, the German pair took the lead in the dressage and did not add any further penalty points to this result, neither in the cross-country nor in the jumping of the CCI3*-L. With their victory, Lagona OLD, bred by Theodor Sporkmann (Bottrop) out of a Cartani dam, and Anna Lena Schaaf continue their career in a straight line. In 2020, the two won the final qualification at the Bundeschampionats and would most likely have become Bundeschampions, if they had not accidentally ridden through the water obstacle once before the last part of the test. They made up for this faux-pas one year later at the World Championships for six-year-old horses with the title and confirmed their class already this year with a three-star victory in Baborowko and now with another World Championship gold in France.

Olympic Champion Julia Krajewski (Warendorf) and her Hanoverian Chintonic (by Contendro I - Heraldik xx) caused another déjà vu at the World Championships for seven-year-olds. As the second best German pair, the two finished this year's WEG in sixth place. The Hanoverian, a full brother of the Olympic horse fischerChipmunk FRH, bred by Wolfgang Lutz from Langwedel, was still second after the dressage and cross-country, but then dropped out of the course and finished the WEG with 25.9 minus points.
Silver went to the British rider Piggy March with the Irish rider Dassett Darthalent (22.7), last year's runner-up Fibonacci des Lessac HDC, a Selle Francais, presented by Nicolas Touzaint from France, finished in bronze (25.5).
The German horse breed was not able to win any medals in the six-year-old class this year. The Westphalian stallion Baumann's Dark Mark by Douglas - Heraldik xx was the best German-bred horse to finish the World Championships for six-year-old eventers. Presented by the Australian Katja Weimann, the black horse finished the CCI2*-L in seventh place (31.6). The best German rider was Nadine Marzahl (Munster) with the Hanoverian Diacontinus daughter, Dia Divina FRH, who finished in tenth place (33.0).
The gold medal in this age group went to the Anglo-Arabian mare Scea de Beliard and her rider Thomas Carlile from France (27.6). Her sire Upsilon was already ridden by Carlile and won gold and silver with him in Le-Lion D'Angers. The Irish gelding HSH Connor (29.2), presented by the US-American Caroline Martin, came in silver. The bronze medal was secured by the British sport horse (SHBGB) Corimiro (by Amiro Z) with his rider Sarah Bullimore (30.4).
