Longines CHI Classics Basel cancelled

THE CANTON OF BASEL-LANDSCHAFT WITHDRAWS THE PERMIT OF THE LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL - THE EVENT IS CANCELED
It is with great regret that the organizers of LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL are forced to cancel the equestrian event planned for January 13th to 16th, 2022 in the St. Jakobshalle. This afternoon, the organizing committee of the Basel horse show was informed that the government council of the canton of Basel-Landschaft had revoked the approval granted on November 15, 2021 for the event. If necessary, a license could have been granted for an execution behind closed doors. However, because the epidemiological situation could worsen further, the organizers decided with a heavy heart to cancel the tournament. Dr. h.c. Thomas Straumann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL sponsoring company, is disappointed: "After the second cancellation in a row and the realignment of our event, which has unfortunately become impossible, we cannot avoid thinking about fundamental issues." «We tried everything with enormous commitment right up to the end. The best riders would have loved to come to Basel. Our sponsorship and hospitality offers were sold out and ticket sales were at record levels. Unfortunately, the development of the pandemic is again thwarting our plans, ”explains OK President Andy Kistler.
